...create somthing with the stupid plastic window thingy!

Melissa had a good idea in her comment about what I could do with those stupid plastic window thingies in envelopes. She said I could make a fun card with them. I also searched the internet and found that "holli jo" had made a mini dry erase board craft tutorial using the stupid plastic window thingies. She got her idea from Claudine Hellmuth's blogpost. People are so creative!

I went to work with the scrapbook left overs I had. At first, I thought I would make a magnet. But then I had this ribbon that went so well...I came up with a dry erase bookmark. I figure I can write down a good quote or page number that I might want to return to on it. What do you think?

PS: My thoughtful hubby pointed out that I would want to make sure that the dry erase marker dried (and didn't rub off) before leaving it in my collector's edition Twilight book (Breaking Dawn is pictured above).

Whew! Potential disaster averted there. ;)

...be green or OCD!

It's not easy being green! I try to do what I can in my little apartment. I recycle containers and paper by bringing them to the county drop off points. A large part of my paper recycling comes from the mail. Those of you that know me well, know how OCD I can be about some things. Well here's one of them: plastic envelope windows.

What's the point?! Sure, you can see thru the envelope to read an address. Why not print it on the front of the envelope instead? Can ink be that much more expensive than plastic? I can't recycle the little plastic window. So, what do I do? I rip the plastic window section off and recycle the rest. Yes. "Nerdy," I know.

So, I did a little researching. Guess what I found out? You don't need to tear out the little plastic windows. They will get processed out when the paper is turned into pulp. The same is true with the little plastic window in pasta boxes...that I also feel a compulsive need to tear out.

Of course, the plastic isn't recycled. So, the plastic windows still annoy me...because they seem more of a waste than useful necessity.

What do you all think? Has anyone found a use for the silly plastic windows so that they can be recycled and not just discarded? Am I too OCD on this?

...texturize!

Yep. I've changed the background again. My inspiration for this one might surprise you. I found a texture that I liked on a building in downtown D.C.

...answer!

Most of you thought that my hubby had left a dirty trail with his boots. While that does happen (often!), that wasn't what was going on. I know. I was tricky! ;)

What was going on?

Lucy was playing with a pinecone.

Here she is surveying her handiwork:

She likes to chew up sticks, so I wondered if she would like a pinecone. You bet she did! Her new "toy" didn't last very long at all, and I had a mess to clean up after. But it was fun while it lasted. She then decided it was time for a nap!

...ask.

What is going on here?

You tell me...I mean that! Take a guess at what is going on here by voting in my poll to the right or tell me your own idea by leaving a comment. I will reveal what is going on...in my next blog post! He-he-he.

...to go for the birds!

There is a little wildlife viewing station on Quantico. We went up there to see the tundra swans today since the weather was so nice. These birds fly here each year from Canada. They are here from November to March. We just don't get many opportunities to see them--especially when the Chopawamsic creek freezes over! They were still pretty far away. I zoomed in as best as I could with my little camera. It's best to see them in person. There were also Canadian geese, seagulls, ducks, and other water fowl. I didn't see a gray heron, but I've seen them there before. Maybe we'll see them the next time we go "for the birds!"

...read my emailed book.

Some of you may have noticed that I've added a Goodreads widget to my blog. Yep. I got into Goodreads, a social networking site that focuses on reading, after a few friends suggested it to me. I'm usually uneasy about just picking up any book and reading it because there aren't any book ratings like there is for TV and movies. So, what you though would be a PG book could turn out to be more of an R book. What's worse is when this happens right in the middle after you have invested time and really care about the characters! Anyone else experience that? Anyway...that's what brought me to Goodreads. There I can see if the book I'm interested in has been read by someone who's opinion I trust and/or has a similar taste in books.

Now that I'm confident in selecting a book to read, you would think I'd just go out and read a good book. Nope. That would require a trip to the library or book store. Right? Wrong. I found a way to get the book emailed to me in sections. That's right. DailyLit emails me a little bit of my current book, The Count of Monte Cristo, each day. It's as easy as reading a little email. DailyLit also lets me control how large the section is and how frequently I get my emails. I can suspend the emails at any time or I can get the next section with a simple click of a button at the end of my email. It's fun. You don't even need to register to the site to get the free emails--so, no new password to remember!

So now modern tech has lead me to reading good, old literature. Who would have thought?!

...do crunches...if Lucy lets me!

"...9, 10, 11..."

What is going on here?

"...15, 16, 17..."

Tina is lying on the floor with her knees up. She's got her hands behind her head, and she keeps crunching her upper body towards her knees.

"...33, 34, 35..."

Her breathing is irregular. She keeps exhaling every time she's up and inhaling every time she's down.

"...55, 56, 57..."

Is her face turning red? Does anyone else think this is strange?

"...82, 83, 84..."

I'd better let everyone know what's going on by barking about this! What is she thinking?!

"...98, 99, 100! Okay, Lucy. I'm done with my crunches."

Is that what you were doing? Exercise?

Why didn't you say so?!
